Yadegar Asisi opens a new panorama of Pergamon in Berlin

On Saturday, 17 November 2018, the exhibition PERGAMON. Masterpieces from the Ancient Metropolis and 360° Panorama by Yadegar Asisi opened in Berlin.

The panorama takes visitors back to the year AD 129, showing the an- cient city of Pergamon on the west coast of Asia Minor. Yadegar Asisi re- constructs the city as it was during the time of the High Roman Empire under the rule of the Emperor Hadrian (AD 117138). Embedded in the terraces of the Acropolis atop the city’s 300-metre-high hill, monumental buildings, among them several temples and a massive theatre, blend into the landscape of hilly peaks.

Karsten Grebe of Asisi Gmbh reports that the commissioner for Culture and the Media of the Federal Government of Germany, Monika Grütters, Hermann Parzinger, the president of the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation, Sonja Klee, curator for the Würth collections, artist Yadegar Asisi and Andreas Scholl, director of the Collection of Classical Antiquities of the Berlin State Museums as well as Michael Eissenhauer, director-general of the Berlin State Museums solemnly inaugurated the exhibition last Friday.

The temporary exhibition building was erected in February 2017 opposite the Bode-Museum at Am Kupfergraben 2, based on Yadegar Asisi’s conceptual design and plans drafted by the architectural firm spreeformat architekten GmbH. Interimsbau Pergamonmuseum Rea- lisierungsgesellschaft mbH, an enterprise of the Wolff Gruppe Stutt- gart/Essen, executed the construction. The building will be in use for the exhibition project until 2024.

The parallel exhibition has been planned by Studio asisi and incorporates approximately 80 of the Antikensammlung’s most important works from Pergamon including the largest piece of the Telephos frieze from the Pergamon Altar.
