Panoramas In Motion: A Public Symposium

Panoramas In Motion: A Public Symposium at the Saco Museum on Friday, September 21 and Saturday, September 22 at Saco’s City Hall (300 Main Street, Saco, Maine).

Please join us for this public symposium exploring topics related to the Moving Panorama of Pilgrim’s Progress. Because the panorama touches upon so many interconnected subjects including painting, literature, theater, cinema, religion; a wide variety of themes will be explored by scholars from many different fields. Confirmed speakers include Kevin Avery, Senior Research Scholar at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; Erkki Huhtamo, Professor of Media Archaeology at the University of California, Los Angeles; Russell Potter, Professor of English at Rhode Island College; Suzanne Wray, an independent scholar of the panorama medium, and representatives from the Dyer Library and Saco Museum.

On Friday night, September 21, a public performance of the Moving Panorama of Pilgrim’s Progress replica will be played at City Hall at 6:30 p.m., along with early Symposium Check-In. Saturday, September 22nd will consist of a full day of panorama lectures beginning at 9 a.m. from leading panorama experts. At 3:30, there will be a tour the Saco Museum’s Moving Panorama of Pilgrim’s Progress, exhibited both at the Saco Museum and Pepperell Mill Space in Biddeford.
