The 35th annual conference of the International Panorama Council will explore the theme of “Panoramas and the Future.” It will be hosted by Panorama Konstanz and Yadegar Asisi from 23–25 September 2026 at the newly opened Panorama of the Council of Constance.

Panoramas and the Future

The conference theme was developed specifically in response to Asisi’s creation of a new panorama of an historical subject, the Council of Constance, which was held in Konstanz 1414–1418. Since the art form’s emergence with Robert Barker’s 1787 invention, panoramas have offered immersive virtual encounters with significant places, decisive events, and imagined worlds across diverse cultural contexts. The 2026 IPC conference explores how the concept of the future operates in panoramas and related media. Now, as then, panoramas are typically presented in purpose-built structures and aim to make viewers feel themselves transported in time and/or space. The immersive impulse extends beyond monumental panoramas to more mobile and intimate forms, including moving panoramas, cosmoramas, dioramas, stereoscopes, print media and more. Today, panoramic logic animates contemporary immersive art and media, from VR and game environments to large-scale venues such as the Las Vegas Sphere, underscoring the panorama’s ongoing relevance as a foundational immersive medium. Meanwhile, surviving heritage exemplars continue to attract audiences, actively curating relations among past, present, and future.

Conference presenters include panorama custodians, professionals, scholars, artists, designers, media specialists and enthusiasts. IPC conferences are distinguished by generous programs that allow time for rich discussion, demonstrations, and hands-on engagement. 

An optional post-conference tour on Saturday, 26 September will take participants to Pforzheim, Germany to visit Asisi’s Panorama of Amazonia.

Dates and Deadlines

Registration will continue until 15 August or when places are filled, whichever comes first.Interest is high and we expect places to fill quickly. To ensure your place at the conference we recommend registering right away 

There are two steps to register:

1. Complete the IPC Conference Registration form

2. When your invoice arrives, please pay via bank wire transfer or IPC's secure SaferPay system, as shown in the invoice

After you complete the form, you’ll receive your invoice. Please allow several days for us to send your invoice, and then pay at your earliest convenience. Registrations are processed in the order received and registration is only complete when payment is received. As a reminder, IPC members receive a discount on the conference registration fee.

Preliminary Conference Program

The Preliminary Conference Program has been circulated to registered attendees by email and is also available for download here. Near the start of the conference, the Digital Conference Packet including Final Conference Program will be posted on this page. Attendees will receive the Physical Conference Packet at the in-person Registration Check-in on 23 September. 

Registration Fee Levels

Priority registration for accepted presenters, honorary IPC members, and institutional IPC members opens on 15 June, while general registration opens on 22 June. Places are limited and we recommend registering early as possible. Registration will CLOSE when places are full, or on 15 August, whichever comes first.

Conference Hotels

The cost of hotels and accommodations are not included in the registration fee and participants are free to arrange their own accommodation. The conference host recommends two hotels that are both within walking distance of the main conference venue, with blocks held at a special rate until 23 August.

The code for conference hotel booking is IPC Conference 2026. If the code is not yet working on either hotel’s webpage, booking can be completed by email or phone. If you email the hotel but do not receive a reply immediately, do not worry; the hotels have set aside blocks of rooms for IPC, and they will reply soon.

Saturday, 26 September Optional Post-Conference Tour—Pforzheim (Day 4)

€ 100 per person

Registration for the post-tour is separate from conference registration and costs € 100 per person, inclusive of motorcoach transportation, lunch, entrance to Asisi’s Panorama of Amazonia with a guided tour, and as time permits, to explore on your own as well. The motorcoach will return participants to Konstanz at day’s end; those who prefer to depart from Pforzheim may do so. Please note that organizing the tour depends on reaching a minimum number of registrations, and places are limited. If you are interested in the tour, please register asap in order to help ensure that we can offer the tour as described.

• Attendees who need to travel to Zurich airport should return to Konstanz and travel from Konstanz main station (travel time: circa 1 hour 15 minutes)
