ThemeThe image is captured by the historical scene described in the epic poem Královédvorský manuscript about the battle between Siegfried von Margrave of Meissen and the Czech feudal Benes, son of Herman, which was to take place during the reign of Premysl Otakar I in the early 13th century and that the Czechs had glorious victory.

Historical referencesThe canvas is exceptional in size 10 × 8.5 m. This size but has brought difficulties with permanent exposure. After the work was exposed as a diorama at the Ethnographic Exhibition in Prague, Czechoslovakia was re-issued in 1908 a comprehensive exhibition on the occasion of Czech artists, as well as in the years 1925-1931 as part of regional exhibitions in Turnovo in a specially built pavilion for them. Only in 1974, after a thorough restoration of the image permanently displayed in the gallery of the Museum of the Bohemian Paradise
